South of De Panne is the rural polder and border community of Adinkerke.
Today Adinkerke is mainly known for the family amusement park Plopsaland. Other places of interest are the station building, the Sint-Audomarus church, the Museum Cabour WWII & 2/4 Lancers... Several cycling and walking routes lead to untouched natural beauty: domain Cabour (87 ha) and De Moeren (3,500 ha).
Every Friday there is a modest but pleasant market in Adinkerke, in the parking lot in the Dorpsstraat (near the Sint-Audomarus church). You can go there for vegetables, fruit, fish and chicken on a spit. Everyone is welcome between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.!
Cobergher cycle route
The Cobergher cycle route flirts with the French border. You do depart from Adinkerke, but you immediately cycle to Hondschoote in France. The Moeren are central to this cycling route. This is a 3,000 hectare agricultural area with rectangular plots and perpendicular canals. There used to be a large inland lake here, but it was drained by Wenzel Cobergher in the 17th century. You cycle back to your starting point along the French-Flemish Houtland and the inner dunes of Ghyvelde and Cabour.
The Calmeynbos is a wonderful forest of 66 hectares for walking, cycling, mountain biking or horse riding. This dune forest, located a stone's throw from the Flemish coast, is home to a diverse animal and plant kingdom. For those who want to combine sea and forest, this is an ideal destination! Those who want to look for some shade in the summer can walk to their heart's content in this varied forest area.
Museum Cabour WO II
The Museum Cabour WWII & 2/4 Lancers contains a large part of the collection purchased in 2009 by collector Robert Moeyaert, and illustrates the course of the Second World War in our region, on the basis of 11 storylines such as the refugees, the air force or the 'Sperrgebiet' and some crucial moments such as Operation Dynamo, the liberation and siege of Dunkirk.
